William Sitwell Reviews TTC
“And The Touring Club, with it’s wood-burning stove and friendly staff, offers the kind of welcome you might wish for in a mountain cabin as the storms and snow set in”
It was lovely to welcome William Sitwell at The Touring Club a few weeks ago. After not seeing him for a few years I wondered if he’d come and review us. William Sitwell is a restaurant critic at The Daily Telegraph and was full of praise for TTC.
What he ate:
Salad Lyonnaise
Welsh pork chipolatas, honey & tajin
Miso roast cod, yuzu & impatient pickles
Hanger steak, spiced aubergine & chimichurri
Cheese, pear chutney & bara brith
“The compact menu of snacks, fish, small plates, a pudding and some cheese is one of no fixed abode, it’s a random assembly of flavours garnered by the owners on their travels through the US, Asia, Europe or Wales. And with a similar vibe from the wine list, it makes for a richly esoteric experience. The lesson being that in hospitality you can labour all you like with concepts, but if your guiding principle is that it works and tastes good you’ll be on to a winner. Especially if you add the discipline of a tight menu.”
