Morning Rituals
Each morning I have several rituals, some movement yoga with my apple fitness, writing, mindfulness meditation and tonics.
Let’s focus on tonics..
I fast till around midday.
And for the past 6/7 years I’ve done the same rituals nearly every day:
1. I’ve always got 500ml of purified water at my bedside. If I sink some I’ll top it up once I'm awake. I ensure I give my body a good flush of water before I do any movement. Then once I’m awake and have done little movement I’ll flush my body with 500ml of No.2.
2. Warm lemon, pink salt and cayenne (I add a tsp of marine collagen as I’ve typically just finished a short yoga routine). Right now I’ve done some jobs and I’m ready to get started - so time for a coffee or fat coffee.
3. Fat coffee for me is black Coaltown Coffee, 10g grass fed butter, 1tbsp collagen, 1tsp marine collagen (both from Hunter and Gather) with a pinch of pink Himalayan salt whizzed up nice and creamy in a Nutribullet. Allow that to settle. Too much rigorous movement straight away can cause a bit of gas.
4. 1 litre of water infused with cucumber, mint, lemon and cayenne pepper to your taste. This is a great diuretic and the cayenne is a good fat burner! After a workout or run it’s often not time to eat, but I just need to get some some protein from somewhere so I’ll have 5:
5. Bone broth (from Borough Broth Company) or you can use my recipe, with some liquid aminos, Willy’s Apple Cider Vinegar and a pinch of pink Himalayan salt. I stir in extra collagen to mine but that’s just me.
When lunch hits, I’ll always have an apple or something to get my gut ready to break down food. Or it could be some blueberries or something not too sweet but with a skin. Then my tummy’s ready for something a bit stronger.
6. Chia, flax, goji and kefir whey protein. I like Protein Works Whey 360 Isolate. I go for the plain base so there are no flavour enhancers or nasty bits that bulk out most protein powders.
I add nuts, seeds, kefir, water, raspberries or blues (especially frozen blueberries from Sainsburys or Tesco’s), and then blitz in a Nutribullet - adding more MCT oil if I’m particularly tired, and then it’s lunch.
Keep hydrated throughout, on keto I will consume around 3 litres of water a day!
So keep a measure of how much you're drinking. Your pee should be clear and if it’s not, you’re processing too many other toxins or you should get checked by a health professional!
